There are a couple of places which are worth of visiting if you want to have a rest after shopping or walking through the city of Belgrade.

Ada Ciganlija - This peninsula, rich with oak and elm forests, different animal species and with a specific microclimate, presents a true little oasis, just four kilometers away from the centre of Belgrade. Because of its natural riches, variety of sports and numerous restaurants, Ada Ciganlija has become the favourite place for enjoyment, rest, recreation and entertainment of many local and foreign visitors. During hot summer days, thousands of citizens of Belgrade come here to cool down, swim and have fun on the peninsula surrounded by the Sava River and Sava Lake. Kosutnjak - The forest-park and picnic grounds of Košutnjak extend over a surface of 330 hectares, at an altitude of 250 m above sea level. The forest of deciduous and evergreen trees is crisscrossed by numerous footpaths. Košutnjak was likely named after does (“košuta”), once present in the forest. The thick forest was a closed palace hunting ground until 1903, when it was opened to the public. Košutnjak contains two specially arranged complexes: the sports and recreation centre “Pioneer City” and the Film City with a complex of ateliers and...

Kalemegdan - The oldest of the city parks was created in 1870. It is a green environment within and around the Belgrade Fortress, known as Kalemegdan Park, including the Great and Small Kalemegdan, i.e. the Upper and Lower Town. Recognizing the exquisite value of the salient ridge of Belgrade, the first Serbian urbanist Emilijan Joksimović proposed the idea that the City Field, Kalemegdan, be turned into a “wondrous park”. The first planting of Kalemegdan was undertaken between 1869 and 1875 and the main Sava Alley was planted in 1886. The monuments erected during the past hundred and fifteen...

Belgrade Hippodrome - Hippodrome was opened in 1920 and it is the oldest sports venue in Belgrade and Serbia. It has 2,260 seats. Competitions are organized from April till October, during 20 racing days. All these activities are greatly influencing the breeding of race horses and thus the development of equestrian sports. Botanical garden - Belgrade's beautiful botanic gardens are a peaceful oasis in the hectic city; it's an exceedingly pleasant place to picnic, stroll or just loiter under any of the shady trees. Be sure to check out the Victorian-style greenhouse and the tranquil Japanese garden.

Great War Island - Despite the name, this island at the confluence of Sava and Danube rivers is a peaceful retreat from bustling Belgrade. Once a strategic defence point in various battles for the city, it's been left to run gloriously wild, offering a haven to almost 200 bird species (and a handful of locals who've set up vikendice – holiday shacks – in its overgrown interior). Lido Beach at its northern tip is a popular swimming spot.
